Cheralee Calhoun – Runner, Motivator, Community Builder

I’m Cheralee Calhoun, and my running journey began back in high school, where I competed in the 400m, 4x400 relay, and cross country. In 2014, I shifted toward longer distances and found my stride. By 2015, I had joined Black Girls Run, and my passion quickly accelerated—from my first 5K to completing my one and only full marathon in 2016.

Since then, I’ve run around 20 half marathons and countless other races. But running is more than just miles for me—it's about community. I often step off the pavement to volunteer and cheer on fellow runners. Encouraging others, whether they’re sprinting or walking, brings me immense joy and purpose.

Outside of running, I’ve been married to my husband, Mark, for 31 years. We’re proud parents of three sons—Mark (Biomedical), Tre’ (Computer Software), and Avery (Electrical)—all engineers, and grandparents to three amazing little ones: Gemma, Calvin, and Theo.
